sigur ros, a post-rock band from iceland, has been one of my favourite bands since i bought and was immediately mesmerised by their second album "agaetis byrjun" released in 1999. i never expected they'd perform live in hong kong considering the fact that hong kong's a much smaller market than its neighbouring countries and territories like japan, taiwan and australia.
in march, it's announced on sigur ros' official site that hong kong will be one of the stops of their asian tour. i've just come back from the concert held in hitec, kowloon bay. it's really hard for me to describe in words how much i loved the concert, the band and their music. the audience loved the concert too. nobody left the concert hall after two encores. they just stood there and gave the band rounds of applause and two standing ovations. jonsi, the lead vocalist of the band, delivered a wonderful performance. he got the voice of an angel. the supporting band, amiina, comprises 4 girls also from iceland, was surprisingly good as well. i can't wait for the release of their new album.
3 years ago, i went to massive attack's concert held in amsterdam alone. that concert, together with sigur ros' hk concert last night (7 april 2006) are truly unforgettable. it's hard to say which one is better cos they're both great bands and they play different genres of music. but if either of them plays live in your town, please do go to the concert since it'd probably be an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
