THE EYE IN HEALTH AND DISEASE
The eye has been called the window to our soul, and in many ways it is also a window into the general health of the body. There are a multitude of diseases that can be diagnosed by detecting characteristic changes in the eye. Several diseases, such as diabetes, atherosclerosis can affect different parts of the body, including the eyes. But of course, most of the eye diseases are confined to the eye itself, with no involvement of other areas in the body. In the following, I shall look deeply into these two types of eye diseases. Now, we shall look at some eye diseases that have no counteract with other parts of our body first. They include myopia, astigmatism, presbyopia, retinal detachment, macular degeneration, cataract and glaucoma.
